Harness the Power of Automation to Accelerate Life Asia Testing in Insurance

Industry & Segment

Insurance

Objective

To accelerate LifeAsia testing in insurance by leveraging automation to improve testing speed, accuracy, and overall quality assurance efficiency.

Overview

A South Asian life insurer, with close to 50 million customers across almost 150 cities, faced significant challenges in scaling its Life Asia testing processes due to its reliance on traditional manual testing methods. This case study explores how the implementation of QualityKiosk’s Automated Testing Center of Excellence (TCoE) led to remarkable improvements in efficiency and reliability, ultimately allowing the insurer to maintain its growth trajectory.

Challenges

Manual testing limitations

The traditional manual testing approach limited the scope of testing, making it difficult to meet the demands of an evolving digital environment.

Resource constraints

Increasing the testing scope would require a disproportionate increase in efforts and resources, straining

Release timelines at risk

The inability to scale testing effectively threatened to delay application release timelines.

Application-specific constraints

Manual testing limited coverage significantly, with human testers only able to work for about 12 hours a day. This limitation hindered comprehensive testing and increased the risk of defects.

Strategy and Solutions Employed

image

To address these challenges, the insurer partnered with QualityKiosk and UiPath to establish a robust Automation Testing Center of Excellence. The key strategies and solutions included:

  • Implementation of TCoE: QualityKiosk’s Testing Center of Excellence (TCoE) transforms quality assurance in the BFSI sector by centralizing and s tandardizing testing processes. It adopts a shift-left approach, enabling early defect detection to reduce costs and accelerate time-to-market. The AI-first methodology integrates performance data with AI algorithms for proactive quality assurance. Additionally, TCoE provides real-time reporting and service virtualization, enhancing collaboration and efficiency across projects while ensuring comprehensive quality governance and improved user experiences. The TCoE was integrated into the insurer’s broader Quality Assurance initiatives, directly overseen by the QualityKiosk’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO). This strategic alignment ensured that AI-based automation efforts were prioritized and effectively managed.
  • Initiating Automation:By utilizing UiPath’s automation suite, the TCoE facilitated the reuse of existing test cases and the creation of new ones, thereby enhancing test coverage and robustness
  • End-to-End Coverage:The roadmap included plans to extend automation to cover complete customer journeys across digital and core applications for modules like accounts, deposits, funds, transfer, cards, billpay recharge, cheque, MF, demat, profile, Loans, Insurance, Open Market and NLI, ensuring comprehensive testing capabilities.

Results Achieved

Automated critical testing process

The client successfully automated 70% of its testing processes, transitioning from a completely manual approach to a highly efficient automated system. This transformation was driven by the implementation of advanced automation tools that enabled continuous testing without downtime, allowing the testing operations to run for 15 to 16 hours a day, compared to the typical 12 hours achievable by manual testers.

Increased test coverage

Automation enabled an increase in the number of test cases executed by 50%, allowing for more comprehensive validation of applications. For Life Asia specifically, automation allowed for coverage that was previously unattainable under manual constraints

Test case reuse

The insurer successfully reused 50% of existing test cases, which significantly reduced the effort required for new tests.

Time and effort savings

The initiative saved 132 person-days and 192 hours per month, translating to a 60 to 70% reduction in time and a 53% reduction in efforts.

Quality assurance

The insurer achieved a remarkable milestone with zero showstopper defects, ensuring high-quality releases.

Operational efficiency

Overall, the automation led to a 59% reduction in efforts, enhancing the productivity of the testing teams.
